Default OMG, These Guys Use Steroids!!!

So I had one of the gym staff take pictures of me for before-and-after
shots, now that I'm getting serious about this bodybuilding/
weightlifting stuff...the guy's asking me whether I take steroids, and
I'm like, what??? Then he tells me about these two guys in the gym
who take steroids, and I'm like, holy shit! What's incredible to me
is that these two guys ain't all that! They are definitely in shape
and all, you definitely can tell they're athletes, but the thing is,
they're no bodybuidling magazine models either...one of 'em had messed
up his leg with an injection years ago, and the other had some kind of
allergic reaction this past Friday that resulted in a misshapen right
delt!

So now I'm starting to look down on steroid users...I already had a
bad opinion of them through this newsgroup, but now that I've actually
met some (one of them even publicly acknowledges his steroid use; he
was showing people his misshapen delt, though I missed it and only
heard about it later), I'm like, geez, they go through all that
trouble and they look like they're at my level of physique! Frankly,
they look "natural" to me -- which is why I'm so shocked -- and not
"freaky" at all...which makes me wonder about all those "natural"
competitors, now, who look like smaller versions of the druggies...!

Indeed, now I'm wondering about all those big superhero-looking Army
Rangers I knew (Pat Tillman-looking dudes, tall and big despite being
always tired and hungry, which is the lot of an infantryman when not
in garrison)...were all those guys on steroids too?? 'Cause I look
the way I look doing simple basic calisthenics, and I was always
wondering how come those guys are so big doing the same push-ups and
pull-ups I do....

I don't want to start getting a superiority complex here, but, unless
it's a black guy, I'm suspicious that all these people with cannonball
delts are just druggies!

Just stay away from steroids (they're not good for you). The more you
lift and the stronger you get, the more people will start approaching
you about steroids and stuff. I was 15 or 16 the first time it
happened to me and it scared the hell out of me that people were
selling steroids in a gym I was using, but I guess thats just life. I
have an article about steroids on my site (and on my blog) which might
help explain some of the bad affects of steroids to you (but you seem
like you want to stay away from them anyways which is a good thing )

At first I was flattered that folks ask me whether I'm on steroids,
but now it's rather annoying, because I didn't even hear about them
until only five years ago even though I've been athletic all my life
(I'm 35). It sucks because I work hard for what I have and I hate to
be lumped in with the cheaters. No big deal, but because steroids are
so in the news people seem to just assume everyone is on them; I never
used to get those comments before.

It's weird, but now that I myself am becoming more and more aware of
them, I also find myself thinking that some big dude might be on
steroids, and that sucks...kinda like finding out a girl has fake
titties...I'd rather not dismiss my fellow gym rats that way, but with
these two dudes at least I've lost half my respect...they still work
out, of course, but how much is due to drugs and how much their own
hard work? Just can't tell anymore. And, I say again, what's really
shocking is how "normal" they look...big dudes for sure, but not
"competition big" (or so I imagine)...really very normal: in my
league, actually!

Man arrested for having big muscles

Published: 13th August 2007 08:30 CET
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/8168/

A well-built man was forced to take a drugs test in Stockholm recently after a police officer assumed that muscles like his could only have been developed with the help of illegal substances.

The female assistant police officer got into a conversation with Tomislav Boduljak and his friend late at night in central Stockholm.

According to Boduljak, 27, the police officer was pleasant at first, but changed her attitude when he said he worked out. Saying his muscles were 'abnormal', she said he must have used drugs.

"I asked if she didn't think it possible that I work out a lot and eat well. She said that if someone looks like me, she assumes they have taken drugs," he told Metro.

Despite Boduljak's assurances that he didn't use steroids, she forced him to go to the police station and give a urine test. In her report, the officer said he had "unusually large muscles, particularly large arm muscles, which are a sign of steroid use."

The test was negative, and Boduljak made an official complaint against the police officer. Prosecutors looked into the case, but decided not to pursue it.

Janne Magnusson, an officer at Stockholm Police's drugs unit, told Metro that he thought that the officer had been "a bit too ambitious".

He used masking agents. She should have tasered his nuts and tossed him onto
the railroad tracks, but then he was probably too heavy.

Fuck you SPAMMER. You don't know a fucking thing about anabolic steroids, so
why comment? Go back to ass fucking little boys.

If this is a true story, then Sweden is more of a fucked police state than
the US. Any officer of the law who is worried about anabolic steroids needs
to be shot.

Debatable. But i think the UK has both of them beat anyway. We should have
some kind of international police state contest.

I'm still wondering how she "forced" him to go to the police station!
I guess his muscles weren't that big after all -- she would have
forced him home to her bed! (A lot of women are turned on by big
arms, but IME they had always been the voluptuous kind of girls, BBWs
-- real BBWs, not mere fatties, like how Tyra Banks is now a BBW).

I was stopped, but not arrested, one time back in USSR, for having a
"bodybuilder" look. The officer went, "Hey pumped-up, come here!" My
bag was searched for anabolic drugs, which I never used. I had a pack
of multivitamins with me though, because I led a somewhat nomadic life
at the time. The officer still expressed disapproval but let me go. I
think that bodybuilding was considered a bourgeois or maybe dissident
activity, and there was a popular belief that those big muscles are
all fluff, developed by doing lots of repetitions with very small
weights.

Of course, the hard-core kettlebell people still think so :-)

I was stopped, but not arrested, this morning, for nothing at all.
Terrorism act 2000, section 44.

Although, as with our Swedish brother, it was a cute little blonde
officerette who stopped me, so it's possible she wanted my name and
address for other reasons ...

Wow. People really do get funny ideas, don't they? And when they're the
people with power, that can be really annoying.

How does relating personal experience that is similar to what another
made a post about spamming? If you've ever even been to a gym, you
know how available steroids are. I think its even worse that they are
easily available to underage people too, but for some reason being
AGAINST the use of steroids automatically make me a spammer. Even if
there weren't medical side affects, I'd still be against there use.

Kettlebellers are stoopid. Everybody knows that it's Pilates that
develops long, lean, functional muscles.

Meanwhile, he ended up on dialysis and needed a kidney transplant and has

You have a link to your blog, which is wrong -- but if you had linked
your drum-making business (or, preferably, his), that would have been
all right.

It's all about which side of the bread you butter around here.

I didn't realize that I couldn't link to my blog here. Is that just a
rule of this group or is it a rule of groups in general? I'm new to
these groups and didn't realize that was illegal here (actually, I
only started adding a link to it because I have seen others doing the
same thing) so I'll stop adding that to the bottom of my posts

There is nothing wrong with linking to a blog, as long as you are a
legitimate participant in the NG. There have been a bunch of spamming
assholes lately simply trying to generate traffic to blogs.

Not exactly. The blogger stated, "I have an article about steroids on
my site," which is what I'd call an attempt at driving people to his
web site and/or blog, right?

I'd tend to agree with you if Schuh typically stated, "I have an
article about drums on my site." Of course he doesn't and so the
comparison you provide isn't working.

Two cents. Meh.

Can't speak for the folks at alt.sport.weightlifting or
sci.med.nutrition (or, hey, MFW for that matter), but I can speak (and
speak and speak and speak ;o)) for myself, but you certainly can,
again imo, link to your blog here. The problem is when you or anyone
mentions the blog in each post. Do you do that? You did in this thread
kinda, right. Something like "I have an article on my site," but
Freides tends to do that as well, iirc.

Anyway, Schuh's a little "YOU FRIGGING SPAMMER" trigger happy, so take
his chastisements for what they're worth.

http://weight-lifting-fitness.blogspot.com
http://www.theweightliftingbible.com

Hmm.

On your one page:

"They lead to increased blood pressure, harmful cholesterol levels,
cardiovascular disease, coronary artery disease, acne, baldness, high
estrogen levels, decreased testicle size, infertility, ALTERATION OF
YOUR HEART STRUCTURE, heart attacks, hypertension, cardiac
arrhythmias, and DEATH. To some, these risks might be worth it. If
they are for you, I sincerely urge you to rethink your priorities in
life. Premature death shouldn't be a good tradeoff for big muscles
(with acne and baldness) when having big muscles can be obtained by
everyone through hard work and dedication to a weightlifting program
for an extended period of time."

Oh, you bastard. I happen to have both acne and baldness and have
never touched a steroid. Fortunately, the shaved head look has been
popularized for whatever reason in recent years. And acne has a
tendency to make you look younger. Er, well, as in "Jeezus, he looks
eighty, but that can't be right, can it? He's got a big zit right
there on his nose!"

Post your link. Keep it in your Sig, though. Don't try to drive people
to your sites by repeatedly mentioning them in your comments/replies.
Realize that some people will call you a spammer simply because you're
new around these parts. Or, hey, because they're jerks. (Ooooor
because it's the truth. An option, you know.)

Yeah, most guys are pea brain when using that stuff. But rather not
than kill my looks. =) No offense to those who are king of stacks
here.. =)

I guess being freaky depends on your genetic potentials.. makes me
wonder why how freaky markus rhul could get... =)

They're big but not at the level of proffesional bodybuilding. They
gain fat when they get big. Wherein in bodybuilding being ripped and
big is the game.

Well, I tend to disagree with you. Flex wheeler injected some on his
delts.. I guess delt training could be attained if you had spent many
painful sessions finding out the right exercise and groove for your
delts. I, who had spent more than 6 months trying to compensate on my
delt structure had found things which had greatly helped me in getting
attentions becoz of my delts, well, not that cannonball like but I got
delts, some of us here, don't . lol

Have a nice day,

Aha!! More proof of the Jewish conspiracy in pro bodybuilding -- all
these thousand and one rules on what's kosher and when.

So it's fine if you have it in your sig line but not okay if specific
mention is made of it in the body of a post...subtle, subtle!

I don't know tom, but here at my place , my colleagues at the gym are
mostly cops with big muscles and they're not on juice. So no problem
here.. =)

Well, I guess it all depend on the knowledge everybody has about
bodybuilding. If he doesn't know why people tend to get big just by
lifting weights and a good nutrition then for him it's gonna be all
because of STEROIDS ALMIGHTY. Yeah, just like an illiterate guy who
keep judging big guys just becoz he knows nothing about it. =)

Certainly not a rule but my observation and opinion, fwiw.

What is your faith? And when's the last time you got laid?
Rhetorical.

(Still, it might answer a few questions.)

But I didn't say you were -- not that there's anything wrong with
that, of course.

I didn't say you mentioned any rules, but I'm glad you recognize the
distinction as being an opinion of yours. Too many times people fail
to realize that their newsgroup preferences are their own, you see....

Actually, it's a word which imples that some things are inappropriate
-- which is a most inappropriate word in the realm of usenet.

You know, even asking gay-m-double-u how a kill-file works wouldn't be
as humiliating as begging me!

It's very cute. Reminds me of the Talmudic junction against yoking
bulls and horses together, on the grounds that it would be unfair to
the stronger bull to be doing most of the work.

I'm an atheist, but I think 99% of all monotheists should just...kill
each other already. I honestly think that would be progress.

Actually, another guy with cannonball delts looks like he's got
implants or something...but this guy with the misshapen delt, his
delts look "natural" normally -- just a little bigger than mine (and
mine are only "athletic," not "cannonball")...that's what's so
surprising to me, that these druggies don't look bigger than me! But
maybe it's just silly gossip that they use steroids...I really don't
know...but what sucks is that now I've lost respect for them simply on
the suspicion of drug use...not so much that they do it, but that they
go through the trouble without anything to show for it!

Surely these guys have before and after photos...it'd be great if
someone were to do a book on steroids in bodybuilding and provide
before and after shots of the pros! No doubt they were big dudes to
begin with; but I wonder just how much of a factor drugs are, and in
what ways....

True -- but they're still impressive...I mean, Pat Tillman basic
training graduation photo is like, wow...most people lose weight after
basic training!

I wonder if delts are like abs or calves, if some muscles are
naturally harder to train (to effect) than others...my calves are
naturally poppin' and I don't do no work on them (until lately now
that I've adopted the squat and the deadlift as exercises)...but my
delts don't seem to respond any, they're just the same as they ever
were, which is definitely "athletic" but nowhere near
"cannonball"...so I wonder if some guys in the gym are on drugs now!

I remember Chris Cormier talking about Flex Wheeler's synthol use. He
said that one time FLex's delt became too freaky that you from the
rear it looked like you can put a hanger on it. lol And Chris also
stated that if Darrem charles would be the one giving advice on calf
training then it's bull* since Darrem's calves a Synthol full..

Well, they can be using it for real. Just don't know the right way of
"stacking" as they call it, I guess. I know guys who take them and
still be smaller than I am.. lol

Don't be bro. Unless they tell it to your face. I suffer from that
consequence too. Not because I use drugs or whatever, but becoz my
physique seems drug-aided, but if they were me they'll know that it
takes more than that to be what we are today. They never counted the
days where I have sacrifice dates for my workout and how many pounds
of iron I move a day. So, I'm saying it to you like a respectful
ironhead, let's not judge them according to looks. Coz if we did then
most of us hardcores are on drugs.. got my point? =)

Yeah, like that of Dennis James on the magazine wherein a 1999 pic was
posted and at the right is the latest contest pic. What brains do
these supplement industry have? Are we fool to be believe that long
before this supplement was created Dennis was already using it? Ha!

>.it'd be great if

Yeah, that would be nice but I would rather not .. If you'll think of
it, many young aspiring kids would follow them. It's okay if they're
fooling us, young adults about taking this supp's and get huge like
them, but not the kids..

>No doubt they were big dudes to
> begin with;

On youtube, you can see Flex's tiny tiny body when he first started.
So let's just say steroids for his body works wonder! Big Time!

>but I wonder just how much of a factor drugs are,

Big factor... Just look at Nasser or Coleman.. There! There's the big
factor... A freakin gut...

>and in
> what ways....

Things always have two effects.. The good ones and the bad ones.. They
may make you huge but they can also make your stomach huger. They may
make you look healthy, but end up looking for someone to donate a
kidney for you (like what happened to mr. shcuh here..) And lastly
they can make you spend lots of dollars and end up earning a little.
So for me being freaky the natural way is the only way to live a
peaceful and healthy life. We may not be a pro but we know deep
inside us that we are a much better athlete since we choose the
hardest way of gaining muscle, THE NATURAL WAY!

Well, Anyone who's new into training will really change big time but
as time goes by gaining becomes very hard so it's just normal to get a
makeover after your first few months in the gym, assuming it's your
first ever..

It would be if:

1. You're not genetically blessed with good delt structure.
2. You don't like training it unlike those favs like chest and arms.
3. You just have one of the poorest form in the gym.

We're the opposite man. My calves are my weakness. My delts are
fairly round but not yet at it's peak though. Controlling and flexing
your delts at photos are what makes it look more rounded and fuller.

Listen asshole, I have been training since the mid 70s, have won many BBing
