Default Protein and fiber for dinner... (pic)

Sunday dinner for guests.

Grilled cornish game hens and shrimp/veggie kebabs, rice pilaf stuffed
butternut squash and white corn on the cob. I don't always get a chance
to make an elaborate Sunday Meal, so this was fun.

My guests ate more than either they or I anticipated. <G>

Guess they liked it.......

Looks good. My stomach has a hard-on from looking at that chicken.

What's white corn?

I was on my own, so slightly simpler - more of a scrapyard challenge
approach based on the contents of the fridge, plus a quick run to the
all-night corner shop over the road. Ended up being a chicken sandwich - a
chicken escalope, seasoned and fried in butter, on brown sourdough with
mayonnaise and some kind of bitter salad leaves. Simple but good!

The kernels are white instead of yellow.
It has a sweeter flavor imho and these were very crisp and tender.
Corn is one thing that I will NOT grill even tho' I know many people do.
I nuke them in the husk.

You should join alt.binaries.food.
Sandwiches are nearly always posted there and really do make excellent
meals! It's easy to make them very elaborate. You should see some of the
sandwich pics that show up!

I don't always make this elaborate of a Sunday meal, but like I said, I
had guests. ;-)

That's only the second time I've ever cooked Cornish game hens. Cutting
them like that (called "spatchcocking") makes them easier to grill flat.
All you do is remove the backbone with a pair of poultry shears and
flatten it a bit with a meat mallet.

I'll keep an eye out for it. Not sure if it's widely, or even at all,
available in the UK, though.

Hang on, this is a group for pictures of food? That seems kind of nuts.
But then i guess i'm in no position to criticise:

After this lot:

I think i've seen everything.

I've heard of it, but never tried it. To be honest, i'm not much of a
griller, although i did recently work out that the freaky cross between an
electric fire and a gas hearth that's attatched to my hob is in fact an
electric grill, so perhaps i should get into it.

<lol> Indeed! you'd fit right in!

They post pics of food etc. and discuss food preparation as well.
The other major food list is rec.food.cooking but you have to post links
there as it's not a binaries group.

There were actually 15 pictures in that series with the cornish game hen
feast but I only posted one link here. I also had taken prep pics.

I'd heard of this. Gross! <lol>

Now _that_ is a sandwich! I've got to post this on the cooking lists!
Thanks for that. ;-) They ran a sandwich thread just last week on rfc.

I grill over a wood fire but I really don't do it that often.
I think that makes it more fun!

Thanks for the links! I'll be sharing those over on the cooking list. <G>

Ah yes. I read uk.food+drink.misc myself, which is pretty much the British
equivalent of rfc. Lower traffic, more local content, and less stuff out
of tins. Plus a healthy dose of misc, as we have here. Gotta get that
misc!

I have to confess to being quite tempted to make something like that. It

That'd be meals for at least a week for me! I'd skip the ranch dressing

I will be paying a lot of air fare to eat in the one in SF, then paying for
a lot of gas before we eat in the one in San Diego. Isn't there one YOU can
drive to?

Closest one is Salt Lake City, Utah, about 1,000 miles away...

I'll go here first, as it's MUCH closer and has an excellent reputation
for serving size and quality:

http://www.ruthschris.com/

There is one in both Austin and San Antonio.

You can't drive from Frisco to Sandy Eggo anymore. The gap in between
is controlled by road gangs who will kill you for your fuel and your women,
especially around the Grapevine and King City.

Who goes to Ruth's Chris for a *burger* ???

>There is one in both Austin and San Antonio.

Hell, if you're down there, just go to Rudy's.

Or Merle's.

(Buddy eats at George's, but we don't know why.)

Rudy's is ok, Granzin's is better.

For burgers, I go to Grins.

For Ruth's Chris, I was talkin' portions!

Or just come to my house. ;-)

Now THAT is a juicy burger!

I cant cook - in fact, i manage to fuck up boiled eggs - but i sure as hell
love to eat. Meat. BIG pieces of meat. Beef. With the fat trimmed.

Yeah, nice juicy steaks and burgers...

If post what my girlfriend cooks and eat herself, you guys wont believe it.

Lucky for me, she is into "Dutch" food as well.

I think if you wanted to ever have a shit again in the rest of your life,
eating some vegetables along with that would be wise.

Lord Humungous will mount your head on his roof rack.

Oddly, he now mainly drives a hybrid SUV.

Why take a perfectly good piece of meat and put PROCESSED CHEESE on top of it?
That's just rong.
