| | | Q for Will: Finasteride Will Brink - you've written some articles on the subject of hair loss back
in 1997 and in 2005. I was just handed a prescription for Finasterid 1mg
today.
If I used Finasteride, and given the fact that I'm taking weekly
depo-testosterone injections (testosterone is over 1300 most of the time),
what are my chances of getting gyno with this combination (as far as you
know)? And if I got gyno and stopped taking this stuff, what are the chances
that the gyno would subside on its own?
If its a trade off over hair / gyno.. I suppose that gyno is easier to
correct with surgery than hair replacement. But on the other hand.... it
could be worse.
If you had stage III hair loss at 32 would you take Finasteride or would you
happily go bald? Of course, going bald can take years so I might as well do
a Britney Spears / Federline act if that's the case.
Thanks,

Theoretically, it increases.
But you take 200 a week, right? I wouldnt worry about it.

Theorecatially, it start to get less. More DHT.
But if you notice it, you are better of with some Proviron and Nolvadex as
well.

I took more than a gram, and i never had gyno. I am not bald either.

Really.. that's good to hear. You still like them big rear-ends, so I take
it that the Finasteride didn't effect that department either. Well that's
good news! Thanks!

Some guys complain about finasteride when they took it with test.
Less gains, less appetite and even less libido.

Both Will and Robert can give you more info. Robert can give you a LOT of
information about this.

Impossible to answer with any hard numbers as there are no studies
looking at that. In theory, risk of gyno would increase. By how much,
depends on some variables, like history of gyno, etc.

In general, early gyno will go away if the offending stimulus is removed
or reduced.

It can always be worse.

Have you seen my hair line? It's not exactly a full thick head if hair. I
tried finasteride years ago, didn't seem to do zip for my hair growth. I
think the drug is overrated for hair growth and underrated for side
effects. Not much to add from what I said in my follow up article on the
topic: http://www.brinkzone.com/articledeta...catid=3&aid=13

Thanks for the information. Based on this and what Pete just added about
some guys not gaining as much on it.. I think I'll skip it. Actually the
"not gaining as much" is what did it for me. I can't afford that. I wonder
if there is a reason for that. Also there are reports of breast cancer from
using Finasteride (or so I've read).

I have been trying to figure this out for more than a decade. DHT is not
very anabolic. Neither are estrogens. A good friend of mine once did 500mg
test/week, and used a lot of Proscar and Cytadren. He figured that if test
is not converted to DHT and E, which are not very anabolic, there is more T
in the system. Which is ananolic.
But that experiment failed.

If you want to optimize the gains from T, perhaps you should add Proviron.
Sometimes that works.

Pete,
You know that everyone is different when it comes to gyno and hair loss.
I am not sure why this guy is asking about Proscar vs Arimidex or
Nolvadex. You have to remember that Proviron is NOT easy to get in the
US anymore. The hair loss issue is more genetic than any of the other
problems. I can tell you this though, I have no family history of
baldness and at 44 have as much hair as I did when I was 24, but I did
take *Testosterone Undecanoate* pills once and my hair did thin out a
bit. I realized VERY quickly that it was a useless drug and stopped it.
I think it basically does nothing but convert to DHT. I even used Cheque
Drops once and had no problems, so the Andriol/Undustor etc. is NOT good
for your hair! :-)

What about testosterone cypionate? how close is that to Anidrol? not close
at all?
I can't stop taking it.. and yes I am genetically predisposed for hair
loss.. but I wish I could do something without stopping the
depo-testosterone and without getting gyno or slowing muscle gain. I want my
cake and a big bowl of ice cream, and I want to eat it too! help?

Richard,
I am still curious as to what your main concern is? Proscar has been
shown to not do much on the positive side and tends to have far more
negative side effects. If you are concerned with gyno, I would look into Arimidex or Nolvadex. You still have to be careful there too as you
don't want to get rid of all the Estrogen. You need a certain amount of
Estrogen to gain muscle. Once again, that part is VERY different from
person to person, so what may be the perfect amount of Estrogen for Tom
may give Bill horrible gyno. Gyno is VERY easy to fix. If you start to
feel any pain or increased sensitivity, you can cut your dosage of the
androgen or you could begin with Arimidex or Nolvadex. What most would
do initially would be to start with both as the Nolvadex will bind at
the receptor site with the Estrogen and the Arimidex will stop the
conversion. Once you get rid of the sensitivity, then you can just use
the Arimidex. I really don't think that you are using enough to worry.
When I competed, we did not have Arimidex, so we used both Proviron and
Nolvadex. When I was in the off season, I did my best to not use any
"anti" Estrogen drugs, but at contest time, they made a BIG difference
with water weight. I would slowly increase my Nolvadex intake up getting
closer to the show and then use IV Lasix for the last 24 hours or so.

Pete,
I can't quite agree with you on the Estrogen part. It certainly be
counter productive in higher amounts, but there has to be a certain
amount to be in a truly anabolic state. There are many Vet Anabolic
mixes that have added Estrogen in them for that very reason. There were
a good # of interesting Vet products that came out of Australia back in
the late 80s and early 90s. If I recall, they had Boldenone, a
Nandralone compound, I believe it was Nandralone Phenlyproprionate, 2
types of Test and Estrogen. This is not the best for humans, but I have
seen many people slow their gains by taking too much Nolvadex. DHT does
nothing anabolically.

That is a tough one to find in the US now. Arimidex is easier to obtain
and it works better. Proviron is a good drug though.

He is worried about side effects and want to maximize gains. But i mentioned
that on 200/week, that wont happen.
3 years ago i stacked a gram of test with 400 Deca, 50 Anadrol and 40
Dianabol.
I has some water retention, and nipples became a little sensetive, thats it.
No gyno.
Actually, the sensetive nipples were pretty cool. It improved my sex-life.
>You have to remember that Proviron is NOT easy to get in the US anymore.
We still have Proviron here. There are 5 androgens here now.
Sustanon, Proviron, Andriol, Androgel and Testim.
We used to have Halotestin and Oxymetholone, and different T-injectables
too.
Winstrol and Primo are also gone. That is EXTREMELY stupid!
Nandrolone is what we have besides test these days. The other European
Countries still have the aforementioned.

At 42, my hairline is receding and hair starts to thin. My brother OTOH, was
completely bald at 40, and never touched a steroid in his life.

I once aked my doctor about it. He told me that if you compare Andriol to
Sust, you would have to take about 2 grams a week compared to 500mg Sust.
Basically, its used around here for sissys who are afraid of needles. No
really, it is. And a lot of that stuff is shipped to Saoudi Arabia. They
love it over there. They dont like injections, and realized that it worked a
lot better then grinded Rhino-horn. A LOT cheaper too!
> I think it basically does nothing but convert to DHT.
Yeah, thats what i understood. It uses the lymphatic system to enter the
body, right? But then i suspect the gels have the same problem. Anything
transdermal passes the skin, and the skin is saturated with 5-ar enzymes.
Good for erectile problems, but growth? I dont think so. Perhaps Andriol
has its use when taken together nandrolone.
> I even used Cheque Drops once and had no problems, so the
> Andriol/Undustor etc. is NOT good for your hair! :-)
I read that 50% is converted to DHT, where injectable test is 15% converted.
BTW, i believe there is *proof* that test-supplemetation does NOT increase
the risk of prostate cancer in men over 40. You know what, it actually
DEcreases it. It seems that men with low test have a crappy T:E ratio. And
that is bad for the prostate. Worse than DHT.

Also what about Eucapil (Furidil)? It is applied to the scalp and I guess it
doesn't interfere with hormones as much as Finasteride. Anyone hear of this

Have you had a problem with gyno? I highly doubt that you are taking
enough if you are using as replacement therapy. Most people don't see
problems until they get over 500 mg/week or so.

DHT is actually a treatment for gyno so I'm not convinced that taking
DHT down to almost undetectable levels won't sharply increase gyno
risk.

I know a guy that had existing gyno that got immediately worse on
finasteride. DHT is, I believe, an antagonist at the ER in the breast
tissue (or something along those lines).
Gyno is like a brush fire...you really don't want to set it off and if
you do you want a firehose nearby. At a minimum, if I were you, I'd
want to be ready to go on the ATAC at the first sign of symptoms.

Going bald is an interesting phenomenon in that you feel OK with it
and then you catch yourself in a mirror or something and go "holy shit
I'm really going bald".
