| | | Question on Creatine
I just bought a new creatine product called Anabolic Switch from MRI.
It came highly recommended by the sales clerk at GNC. HE did however
tell me that I should only use it for 4 weeks during the "ON" cycle,
after which my kidneys wont be able to process any more of it until I
go on a 2 week "OFF" cycle. The language there concerned me a little
bit since I am not knowledgable about creatine.
My question is, is creatine in general harmful to the kidneys (or
liver)?
Any feedback would be appreciated. |

And Brink has a creatine link somewhere, too. Actually, his pic is at
the bottom of that web page. http://www.brinkzone.com/
Best of luck.

You're welcome. And have you checked out www.Bodybuilding.com yet? I'm
sure they have some basic or straightforward creatine advice. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/bbin...?page=Creatine
Should have thought of that right off.
Take care.
And, hey, as a former GNC clerk, don't take everything a salesperson
has as gospel. This clerk may be a genius and a National level
bodybuilder, but it's more likely they're just a person selling stuff.
No harm in that, but that whole caveat emptor thing definitely
applies.

Nothing like medical advice from a GNC clerk....

Ironman magazine had a feature article on creatine last month. Not
very helpful, but interesting to read. For example, they claim that
you only need 2 days' loading, if loading at all. They also say no
health problems have been documented in healthy individuals.
Apparently the Soviets had been taking creatine supplementation for
years.
Most people seem to say that it's had no effect on them. What it's
supposed to do is provide fuel for muscles, so you can have a more
intense workout. Main side effects are temporary water weight gain
(up to ten pounds) and, for a few, slight stomach upset.
I'm looking to try the stuff right soon. I'll be using plain old
creatine monohydrate, which is what all those studies studied. You're
supposed to take it with hi-gly carbs like sucrose or dextrose to help
load it faster and more efficiently. I'm looking at Supplement
Direct's inexpensive creatine fruit punch, which has a few other
things thrown in for, one hopes, good effect. I'll be posting to the
group in another four months or so to report on my experiences. But
for now, know that common opinion seems to be that it's an optional
supplement, unlike protein and muti-vitamin and minerals (insofar as
any supplementation is to be taken for an already well-balanced diet). |

This is a very good ref, Curt. It's a heck of a lot more informative
than the little undergrad history term paper Ironman mag did for a
feature article on the subject two months ago!

Heck, this munchkin is so *angry* it even comes across in his columns
for Muscle Mag Int'l. I literally got a laugh out of one where he
spends a paragraph bitching about mainstream nutritionists!

One could probably stop there.
Will have you looked at stabilized rice bran at all? RiceX makes some
pretty lofty claims regarding what it can do (even patented the
claims).
I've noticed that HDT added SRB to their protein powder and Manno's
added it to their meal replacement product. Tip of iceburg?

You're a funny man, Cohen, I like you. That's why I'm going to kill

Pete? Movie quote alert!
My grandmother called it "The Pill Factory." I worked for GNC part-
time while I was in college. The pay varied, but with the PM bonus I'd
make anywhere from seven to nine bucks an hour. And that was 1988 to
1991 or so.

I don't often pick IM up. It's normally MMI and Flex. Did get the M&F
with Dugdale on the cover, but he didn't appear inside the magazine.
Otoh, I have an eye exam tomorrow. Maybe Dugdale's training routine
was ten pages long with photos of his wife, kids, and a review of
"Driven," his Documentary-style DVD and I just didn't SEE that
schtufff.

Afaik, he's missed the last several issues. Still, he's had at least
one article that I enjoyed. One on amphetamines, iirc.

Tell me THOSE issue numbers because when I've actually read his column
it's - more often than not - simply a regurgitation of someone else's
research.
Regardless, he's carved his niche and apparently does a good enough
job cobbling that research together to earn a living? Dunno.

You guys eat too much red meat. I hate this macho bullshit...

Easy.
David Patrick Kelly always ends up dead. He did so in DreamScape and 48
Hours.
His one-liners in The Warriors are quite funny, and this one is hilarious;
"WAAAAARRRRRIIIIIIIIORS COME OUT TO PLAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAYYYYYYY !!!!!!"
And this one from Cyrus;
"Can you count... SUCKERS !?!?!?"
Outstanding movie that gives me chills all over. Saw it in the theathre when
i was 14.
I enjoy most movies from Walter Hill.
And James Remar is a pretty good actor.

I'm surprised they didn't continue with the Arnold covers...oddly
enough, this issue ain't on sale no more. I guess it sold out for
some reason? 'Cause the new M&F ain't out yet but this one isn't
anywhere to be found -- in NYC!!

Lil' willy has a baby face like a munchkin from "Babes in Toyland."
Sorry, "kc!"

Don't you love how he poses in his photo to hide the bitch tits!

227, the Glutes Special (though some New York latina ought to clue you
whiteboys in on proper female glutes!). It's funny 'cause he sounds
like a belligerent Brainy Smurf! Issue 272 is also funny, where he
promotes his "unified theory of nutrition"...LOL!! Regurgitation
indeed. And this is a Harvard man?? Well, Bush was a Yalelie, after
all....

I doubt that. His anger just screams "LISTEN TO ME!! HELLO!!! OVER
HERE!!!!" He's probably still checking his mail everyday for a
check....

Here are the patents: http://nutracea.com/d_patents.php
I've read most of them...they're interesting. Particularly intriguing
is the one regarding join inflammation. It might be a reasonable
substitute for fish oil.

I almost bought that recently. It's a great flick, but wound up in the
sale bin for ten bucks. The gang on roller skates has got to be one of
the goofiest images in film, imo.

I've read they're always money-making machines, those covers. Arnold
is King, even closing in on 30 years after stepping off the stage in
Sydney.

Interesting. Would have to look at the actual studies they base the patents on.

Doubt it, but it's apples and oranges there.

Well it has 1013 mg of omega-6 fatty acids and 53 mg of omega-3 fatty
acids (per serving) it states, which is not much. Also has a profile of
phyto sterols which may have some anti inflam effects, but on paper, does
not look like anything to get excited about.
