From what I'm experiencing, I have to say that carry-over to real life
exhibits of strength is surprisingly high. I'm often asked to carry
something heavy from one place to other. It often involves picking
something from ground level, shouldering it and carrying it upstairs,
or something of this kind.

Unilateral lifting does help with that.

Well, but you can handle one-limbed more than 50% of your two-limbed
lift, so overall load is higher. I see no reason why this should lead
to lower hypertrophy.

Weightlifters have one-legged lifts in their program. They can't be
bad lifts. I heard that there is no better quad builder than Bulgarian
split squat and that there is no better overall leg builder than heavy
step-up.

At worst they work fine, at best they work great and save your spine.

I saw a girl doing some weird things with one of them at the gym the

squatting with dumbbells in hand. But then when she put her chest to
the ground and moved her legs in and out on the ball it became quite
distracting. She was in what I would call a wheel barrel position
rolling back and forth.

That's called a ball squat. It's fairly effective, particularly for
the quads.

Do a search then. If so there are hundreds of web sites out there
also illiterate. Here is a more precise definition if you lack
imagination:

Shute described a wheel barrel (or wheelbarrow) position clearly in his
initial post, so what was the purpose of /your/ post, John Williams?
Regardless of your purpose, you replied with your question above to
which, yeah, Shute answered with a statement. The image supplied by
Shute (snipped) may have been overkill, but it simply supported Shute's
comment.

And then comes your reaction:

> Are you a liar or just illiterate? <snip>

Childish at best. Actually I'm being unfair to children by making that
comment. You're an adult who behaves poorly, rudely, argumentatively.
Pot, kettle, black? What the heck, I'll plead guilty.

(kicks dirt)

But Cohen started it!!! Cohen STARTED it!!!!

(fondly recalls dagnabit versus dadnabit)

Plus wheel barrel "wins" by 2,120,000 results. Neener, neener, etc.!

Results 1 - 10 of about 2,200,000 for wheelbarrow.
Results 1 - 10 of about 4,320,000 for wheel barrel.

I'd say you're more the liar as well as possibly illiterate, John
Williams, as it seems incredible to believe that you can't entertain
the ideas that a) people can be honest, b) people don't typically spell
words out in their heads as they hear them, or c) people can call items
by different names based on their location, culture, experience, etc.

I went to the cafeteria or mess hall while stationed at Fort Benjamin
Harrison in Indiana. Another service member and I were talking as we
pushed our trays along and I mentioned somethingsomething (after nearly
25 years I don't remember the specific conversation) about a grapefruit
spritzing. The person turned to me and exclaimed something like,
"Spritz? It's spray!" They had never heard the word spritz before. I
took it good naturedly and called them neither a liar nor illiterate.
Spray is more widely used throughout the United States, I suspect,
however spritz is the norm in Lancaster County, PA.

Do they say sack and pop in Ohio? How about tote or bag and soda or
cola?

Liar or just illiterate? Nah. Williams, you might just be grumpy and
inconsiderate. ;o)

Hth.

No shit, Sherlock. Unbridled stupidity runs rampant on the World Wide

"specific," and frequently use the word "irregardless."

You have to go to a slang dictionary to support your spelling? Do you

Trips you up each and every time, pal. Telling someone they're sToOpit
only gives you an opportunity to look like a fool.

Irregardless:

"The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such
word." There is such a word, however."

There is such a word, however.

"It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from
time to time in edited prose." See m-w.com's definition of irregardless
for more.

And although Merriam-Webster recommends regardless, they offer
irregardless as a word.

Likewise supposably. I didn't believe that was a word, however m-w.com
offers a definition.

Regardless (heh), you didn't specifically state that irregardless
wasn't a word. Good thing. However your inability to recognize that
language is everchanging and evolving is what I would call a weakness
on your part.

Not pathetic, but a strength. Where do you think neologists and
lexicographers visit? No contact with slang and those who use it?

http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~ling215/NewWords/index.html

Or to use your apparently preferred source:

http://www.randomhouse.com/words/newwords/

And re using the following link to prove Shute illiterate...

> >>http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/inde...?date=19960725

did you read the entire text there? It includes:

For example, the word bridegroom was originally something like
bridegome, the second element being the Old English word for 'man'.
When "gome" fell out of use, "bridegome" was changed to "bridegroom" on
the analogy of the common and familiar word "groom," which is at least
a plausible substitute.
/copy and paste from wotd

I suppose you still use bridegome?

Words change. New words come into being. And common use often becomes
the "correct" use.

Welcome to Earth, John Williams. Kindly update your mindset. You'll
thank me for it. ;o)

Seriously, if you want to get technical, Shute was guilty of a speeling

My criticism of Williams had its focus more on the whole adult who

Who says twat anymore? No one. Okay, you, Williams, yeah, but that's

I picture you in your car, talking to yourself as you drive along some
back road in Ohio...

[a] You told Rob Schuh that wasn't your real name. So I guess it can
be spelled any way one wants, yes?

[b] If not a real name, is it also a misspelling of "Shoot" or
"Chute"?

[c] I like my creative spelling.

It isn't the name on my birth certificate but it is my name in this
newsgroup. Why is that so hard for some people to understand? People
really ought to take a crash course on Usenet before they come on here
spout of stupid things like this.

Yeah it's a real name.

So when you spell something differently it's "creative", and when I do

Well for clarification the first link spells them how they sound. The
actual words may be spelled differently. There used to be a better
link than those explaining it all. But they seem to have been taken
over by copy cats who updated things and call me an old geezer. I
don't care if the kids call em Boot cut Jeans, they are still Bell
Bottoms to me.

Any way the other pages clearly explain there are no R's in Boston
English.

I've been posting in MFW for ten years. Schuh has been posting here
even longer. How long have you been posting here?

So there's this sidewalk, see? A dog pooped on the sidewalk ten years
ago. You can see the poop. Dessicated, but still present. Even earlier
than that the dog pooped a previous load of poop. It's still there,
too. Recently, a man dropped a wallet on the sidewalk. There are three
crisp fifty dollar bills peeking out.

Okay, not a perfect parallel, but in some ways it's a fair comparison,
imo.

Well here is another Usenet lesson for you. There are over 100K
newsgroups.

Actually, twat is one of the more effective swear words particularly a/ if

Curt, do you put as much effort into your gym time as you do into your
trolling? If so, I really can't understand why you are not seeing better
results.

Actually Curt just talks a lot. A troll incites or inflames others
into conversation like you did to me yesterday. Plus you got all that
shit up on your website to get people going. And lastly a troll goes
around calling others trolls, kind of like you do on your website.

Hmmm ... I don't think you answered my question from last night about
how long you had been around MFW. By my estimation, it's been less
than a month and a half. So I guess your expertise on who is and who
is not a troll is about the same quality as your expertise on the
on-topic subjects.

You and Curt should get along famously!

Spot on Shute, you don't need to have been here very long to work out
who the *real* "trolling" catalyst is.

You don't need to have a gold watch for long service at MFW, to
acquire early recognition of who the *real* pains in the arse in the
Group are !

That could make you have to work a lot harder, if the forces against
you increase in numbers again!

You will never learn will you?

Ha! )

I'm sure you're right on both counts, Bully.

> [...]

I'm no fan of the t word, however I suppose it works.

"TROLL, n. A person who sends messages to a Usenet newsgroup to incite
emotions and cause controversy. [Metaphorical extension of troll, a
supernatural creature (dwarf) that lives in a cave.]" From:
http://www.owlnet.rice.edu/~ling215/NewWords/page3.html

Incite emotions? I'm not trying to put people to sleep. Cause
controversy? Hmm.

Controversy: a contentious speech act; a dispute where there is strong
disagreement; "they were involved in a violent argument" From:
http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=controversy

Wrt Williams and Schuh, there is typically strong disagreement - from
my point of view - as they both often post things that just don't wash,
don't make sense, or are deliberately contentious themselves, so, I
suppose that part of the owlnet.rice.edu applies as well.

(shrugs)

Certainly posting lends itself to high volume "training," however I
would say that I do indeed put as much effort into my gym time as I do
into my... posting. Yes.

Do you really think Curt goes to the gym? Doesn't he weigh about a buck
twenty? ;-)
