I wonder...you suggest it may be a natural consequence of cultural
diversity in one society, but all these cultures seem robust enough in
their own social environments...is it simply the lack of a broader
over-ruling standard, or a consequence of what Spengler has long ago
documented as "The Decline of the West," in his books of the same
name?
Or perhaps we are in the midst of a new civilization being created,
and as happens to those in the cataclysms of earth and heaven, we're
simply but dreadfully caught in changes we do not understand....
BTW, I do reject the "good ol' days" mentality: there never were any.
Sixty years ago you had the world wondering whether fascism would
bring a new Medieval Age upon mankind...the Nazis, the Soviets, etc.,
were certainly thugs. As well as the CIA and American geopolitics,
which undermined democracies with abandon....
