Yes, but Aldous Hulxey's 'Brave New World' was correct. It would be
expensive and difficult for a government to suppress free speech and
rational thought, but the people and corporations do it very easily.
Instead of having our access to information carefully restricted and
censored, we are flooded with idiotic garbage information and
entertainment products.
If you voice a politically incorrect idea, most governments won't be
bothered, but private groups will apply pressure to have you fired.
Rational thought is no longer useful because people will reply to logic
with a nonsensical emotional tirade, or say that all facts are merely
opinions, or some other tripe.
Besides, video can be fairly easily faked even at home by amateurs,
so whatever "oppression" you document is deniable.
You lose! Modernity wins!
