wondering if a post can be made to basically sum up the best bar (high
protein, low sugar) content.
What's the bar of choice for best bang for the buck?
Thanks everyone, |

Different goals, different choices. For some people, high protein with
sugar is good post-workout.
Personally, I use two kinds. One is Warrior Protein Bars, link below. www.kbnj.com/wpb.htm
IMHO, the pumpkin flavor is great, the graham cracker flavor is good,
and the banana flavor is just horrible. The ingredients list is a bit
more on the 'natural' side than the one below, although it's got plenty
of food coloring and whatnot in it. About 10-15 grams of protein and 25
grams of carb per bar.
The other is MetRx Big 100, although I often just have half at a time.
They're about 400 calories each, contain artificial this and that, but a
decent amount of protein, 20-25 grams per bar if memory servers. I'm a
confirmed chocoholic and they've got a few flavors I like, e.g.,
chocolate chip cookie dough and the like. These are readily available
at GNC, Vitamin Shop, and elsewhere.
Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

| | | Re: The Real Deal on Protein Bars Hi Steve, thank you.
I am looking to get more protein in during the day. I don't have
access to a fridge to keep my shakes - and sometimes i like the sweet
kick. I rather have a protein bar than a chocolate bar - get some
added benefits. I am looking to add size basically - I have to
increase my calories basically, but I like to keep the calories clean.
Aside from protein bars, would you suggest anything else I can keep at
work for hi protein snacks?
Thanks,
S

Consider canned tuna (or any canned fish), nuts (peanuts, cashews, etc...),
jerky - preferably homemade or you need to watch the ingredients like sodium
(turkey, ostrich, beef, etc...) |

I basically agree with the other reply.
What I keep in my bag when I'm out for the day is one or two of each of
the kinds of protein bars I mentioned, plus organic, dry-roasted
almonds. Nuts are easy plus they've got some fiber - a great snack. A
typical afternoon for me, e.g., yesterday, I had all three, each an hour
or two apart - one Warrior Bar, a couple of handfuls of almonds, and
half a MetRx Big 100 bar.

I haven't a clue. Their web site says they use Designer Whey in their
bars, but there's no label or nutritional info that I could find - not
that such info is everything but it's a start.

I tried the Detour bar about a year ago (I forget what flavor but it did
have some sorta carmel in it?) I thought it tasted like cardboard with a
hint of bleach aftertaste. About a year ago I went to the store and bought
one of every kind they had (about 12 different brands, I did not try each
flavor, just whatever flavor sounded best in each brand). What I found was
that most were not very good tasting (only a couple were absolutely
horrid!). The only two brands I eat regularly are the MetRX Big 100 (which
Steve mentioned) and the Powerbar ProteinPlus (chocolate/peanut butter
flavor!). Some people find the powerbar to be too "chewy" but if you're not
in a hurry they're pretty good. I tend to snack/graze while sitting at my
desk so I'm in no hurry to finish and thus the 'chew factor" doesn't bother
me - besides it's a workout for your face! |

If you work with a lot of guys, consider giving blowjobs every two hours.
Each ounce of sperm has 21 grams of protein and 17 vitamins and minerals.
You can get at least one ounce per blowjob. |

Even you signature line "It twas ever thus! " - Mr Natural" displays
your ignorance.
The word "twas" is an abbreviation for 'it was', so saying "It twas"
is the same as saying: it was it was.
It's too late to educate you, dopey bugger that you are, but you
really ought to stop trying to give the impression that you are clever
- because you most definitely are not.
You are also not a very nice person, which is why many people are so
willing to draw attention to your deficiencies.
Have a great weekend my diminutive chum - you know I intend to! ;o)

Searching the internet at least gives you the stats & name of a bar
that fits your wants or needs but as many mentioned, there are alot
that taste terrible (same as protein powder flavors, ask who likes
what and you will get all different answers.) So you may find that
while many fit your needs, the bottom line really is how they taste.
There are a few things to look for when reading the wrapper info:
Calories ... how many and does that fit in with your goals? Lo-cal or
increasing calories?
Breakdown of protein/carbs/fats is of interest of course again because
of whatever your goals or needs are. Some people, like you, want a
higher protein bar, while others want more carbs/fats for energy
(bicyclists/runners etc).
Then read further .. most tell you what their protein source is (hehe
soylent green!), how much saturated fat is in it, if they include
hydrogenated fats(transfats), how much sugar (source of)or if they use
artificial sweetners, how much fiber, and what other stuff is 'added'
to it. Note that many bars (and many other foods), have to by law
state certain ingredients, but may cover up others, omit exacts and or
blur their stats to look good, so you may not get what you think you
are, so its kind of buyer beware. Cost, for most, is another factor
when choosing. Some of the cheaper ones at Trader Joes, WalMart, or
Costco are worth looking into too. Altho convenience rules, its still
probably best to limit the bars to occasional usage and eat 'real'
foods whenever possible, blah blah you know balance and all that
healthy advise etc.
Here's a comparison of some bars sorted into categories: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/barspage.htm
And well, you could make your own too: http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/displa...le.php?aid=139

Dont pre-mix your shakes.
When in similar situations to you, I have a whole lot of plastic
peanut butter jars (I am a tight-arse, so rather than buy specific, I
use what is about). Dispense the appropriate amount into each jar,
seal, and transport wherever. When the time is right, open, add
water, close, shake, open, and drink.
Word of advice: rinse immediately, and wash ASAP, and leave the lid
off to dry. Opening one you found at the bottom of your gymbag after
an unknown period of time is an unpleasnat experiance. |

heh D
Voice of experience there, eh?
Try this: I left a sack of potatoes age for however long it takes for
a sack of potatoes to go bad. Very bad. I was, like, "WHAT IN HELL IS
THAT SMELL?" Not a pleasant experience either.
