bodybuilder. A guy who looked like a real man, not a steroid freak.

Very sad to see these great folks like Park, Steve Reeves, and many others
that have passed on. They are real heroes from the days when muscles were
built strictly in the gym and with nutrition.

I wonder what it's going to be like when Arnold dies.

Whatever happened to those investigations he was going to order into
allegations that he abused all those women?

Somehow I doubt that Arnold ever "abused" any women that did not welcome
it.

I mean, come on!

From what I read, he only fondled them.
I'd hardly call that abuse. All they had to do was walk away...

it was very odd for him to promise to commission a special independent
investigation into these allegations....

I tend to believe the women. Why? 'Cause I know females. They talk
a good game about being independent women, etc., but you can basically
have your way with them most of the time. And the way Arnold seems to
be, it's not inconceivable that he got frisky with them (which would
constitute "abuse" insofar as it humiliates the girls, since the
charges are that he did these things in public).

out with body builders to be photographed...

Many women of that ilk would _love_ to be fondled by someone like Arnold.

Hermann Hesse's essay "On Trees"....

Okay, so Arnie's no homo -- though you never know, he sounds like the
type who was "experimenting" all kinds of shit during that most
experimental of decades, the '70s -- but you know, your kids only have
half your genes, anyway, and their kids, only one-half (right?), and
in a few generations, "your" genes are all diluted anyway (which genes
were a dilution in themselves of your parents and their parents,
etc.)...so you know, possessions, leaving one's mark...I question that
now, more and more...it's like money: only valuable if people agree
that it is.

I disagree that a life can be measured by anything other than itself.

Again, check out Hesse's "On Trees." A really beautiful essay, not

More than likely the majority of the time the chicks got nothing but dinner

You should try "On Trees." It's not long, and in essay form (though
fairly poetic). Sometimes the deepest thinkers (real intellectuals)
do not make the best entertainers (storytellers and the like).

I'm not talking about gold-diggers or social climbers here, or
groupies or disgruntled exes -- I'm talking about someone's
administrative assistant, some Gal Friday gofer type, who shows up
with coffee and gets grabbed by a big shot laughing like a frat-boy,
running away in tears. That's the one case that struck me the most,
for some reason -- I guess it sounds so true, instead of some
situation where she's naked in his bed but then decides to say "no" --
and this is alleged to have happened on the set for "Terminator 2"....

Trust me, I am in no way a friend of the female sex. I think they are
meat -- I think religious fundies like the Muslims and Hasids have got
it right, basically -- but the greater evil is not some cunning
parasitical bitch but a predatory head honcho whose ego is too big for
heart....

In Hollywood, there are no goofy, virgin, Gal Friday types. Watch any of the
reality shows about any of those 3rd rate celebrities and you will see that
the Gal Fridays of even the lowest has-been celebrity is usually some
hard-core gold-digging whore who is taking shit from the celebrity in order
to get fucked by other celebrities and DISCOVERED.

The days of a naive virginal Marilyn Monroe being discovered waitressing at
Dunkin Donuts are pure fantasy and never existed. Even Marilyn was a

Me, I actually came to him by accident, only through Bantam's old
"First Language Dual Reader: German"...OOP now, but widely available
through exlibris.com and such sites...whatever Hesse's personal life
and politics, this is a beautiful essay and you should definitely give
it a try.

I'm an atheist but I find the Bible very beautiful and poetic and
wise, too.

I think he meant that the guys in the fifties and sixties used steroids.
That doesnt mean mean, however, that they shouldnt deserve to get the
respect they should get. There was still a lot of hard work and lotsa good
nutrition involved.

Bill Pearl admitted he was part of a steroid program conducted by the
University of California, and that was in the late fiftties.

Point is, simply showing up with coffee doesn't mean she should be
grabbed. It's one thing if she's flirting with him, but there's no

Anyway, whatever. I'm just wondering out loud here. Believe you me,
I am unmoved by a woman's tears. I never understood what the big deal
was about women and children being killed in war.

But I'm just wondering, that's all, about this Arnie incident. In any
case, he does seem to be a good governor. I can't believe it, but I
don't think I would be against an Amendment to the Constitution to
allow him to run for the Presidency...!

It's true -- that pro bodybuilder physique is something of an acquired
taste. I remember first coming across a muscle magazine as a kid: I
wasn't fascinated or impressed, I was shocked and disgusted! And I
don't remember any of the girls swooning over how "cute" (as they
would say) these guys looked.

I agree about, BTW, about the Dalai Lama clique -- as Beijing calls

"On Trees" really reminds me of weight-lifting, in a way...it calls
for high-intensity living, but without egotistic ambition...doing your
own thing, but not because you can't compete at any other game...you
should learn basic German in order to read it in its original
language...the difference can be like that between a dumbbell bench
press and a barbell bench press....

BTW, where I can get some DVD copying software?? Like what had been
outlawed in the US, X-Copy or something...I've got two discs now
that's gone bad on me for no reason whatsoever! Just don't play all

Goodness, that's a depressing statement, if true. It means, in

that simple exercise in staged documentary filmmaking.....

I respect Priest 'cause he actually says that steroids are stupid
unless you're a pro and looking to make a living off competitive
bodybuilding.

I'm sure it matters in the sense that, yeah, ideally, they'd like x,
y, and z -- same as with us guys who have our preferences but could
still find a girl who falls short of them quite sexy all the same....

Of course, nowadays, I think many more females, even young girls, are
all right, even desirous, of the freaky beefcake look, given the
cultural shifts these past twenty years. I mean, good grief, they
don't think there's anything funny about these "hip" guys who look
like gay pirates!

Indeed, my ex had the same reaction. Personally I'm not so much
disgusted as amazed/amused that somebody would do that to themselves.
