Default Should i tell them the truth?

Sorry, this is not about my sexual preference.

Actually, this time i will start a thread that is actually OT. Here goes...

In my gym, i am not the strongest or best developed, but i am probably the
strongest good developed. And no, most of the people there dont know
anything about my habits, and i certainly am not going to inform them. Its
like a fucking village here. But thats not the issue.

The issue is that right now, i am completely "off" for about 3 months, and i
actually gained some strength, a few percent on avarage. Perhaps this due to
fact that i have more estrogens in my system, and hold a bit more water, who
knows? I am pretty stable at 255-260, which equals 115-118 kilo. At this
moment, i am having a "good" week, and i am 117-118. That will be less the
weeks to come. Totally maxed out.

I wont bore you with my lifts, they dont look that impressive here anyway,
since many powerlifters are present here.

Now... there is a guy at my gym who weighs about 180 pounds, and about 5
feet 8. I mean, he has excellent genetics for bodybuilding. He appears a lot
bigger then he actually is, due to tiny joints, short peaked muscles, a tiny
waist, long clavicles, low bodyfat and his skin colour helps as well. He
walks around in a tight T-shirt, so its clear to anyone this guy is really
well developed. I always walk around in An XXL grey sweatshirt. Keep in mind
that XXL over here is not the same as in the US, it seems just big enough to
fit in, and train comfortably.

But it is difficult for people to see what is actually underneath. And i
want to keep it that way ;-O

The guy i described challenged me a few times, but i always declined. But
then he wanted to see if he could oulift me. Fine. So i set the overhead
machine at 115 (which equals 90 kilo in real kilos) and sqeezed out 11 reps.
Total failure.

Then he sat, and couldnt even complete a single repetition. His delts look
pretty good, nice and bulgy, but... he is an 180 pounder competing for
strength with a 260 pounder.

Anyway...

He just HAD to show people that he was better at something. And being
Demonic as i am, i pulled him in a certain direction. And he fell for it. I
started to talk about his abs. Now... THIS guy has outstanding abs. I mean,
he is ripped in the abdominal region, and his abs are very good developed as
well. So i asked him to stand next to me, in front of a mirror, so we could
lift our shirts.

And he totally chrushed me. At first anyway. I mean, my abs barely come
trough a thin layer of fat. You CAN see them, but barely. I am nowhere near
where this guy is. I think my abs are strong and reasonably developed, but
they really dont look impressive.

He, and his friends, had a good laugh. I mean, he outmuscled me, right?
right.

But he didnt realize that he... as you Americans call it, fell for it "Hook,
Bait and Sinker"?

I told him his abs must be a LOT stronger then mine. And of course, he
agreed, he was still euphoric.
So i walked with him to this cool ab machine we have, and set the weight to
max, which is 100 kilos.
The machine is set up in such a way that you start 15 degrees behind
perpendicular, and you can go forward aprox. 90 degrees, so you end 15
degrees before being parallel to the floor.

So... with this machine the gravity pulls at the torso when you are going
past a certain point. For about 75 degrees, gravity helps to move the weight
up. The further you go, the more gravity joins in.

This particular guy has no sense whatsoever about such things...;-O

Anyway...

Since i weigh aprox. 120 kilos, i guess my torso is half of that. Sure, the
quads and glutes are big, but the torso has a lot of organs, and dont forget
the head. So my torso is aprox. 60 kilo and his 40. Now, since we dont go to
parallel, but go from perpendicular to 15 degree above, i guess we use
aprox. 2/3 of our torso weight to get the weight up.

Like i said, the machine was set at 100. So, what we have here is 100 - 60 *
2/3 = 60 kilo.
I was doing reps with 60, my torso weight anyway, instead of 100.

He was doing reps with 100 - 40 * 2/3 which is aprox. 73-74 kilos. Almost
TWICE his torso weight.
Again, he and his friends are clueless when it comes to matters such as
these, which is nothing more then elementary sschool mathematics.

Anyway...

I squeezed out 34 reps, total failure yes. Then it was his turn...

14 reps, BABEE !!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!

I mean, you should have seen his face! He was in fact, totally chrushed.
He even walked up to me and gave me a compliment about my ab strength. I
replied that i was strong overall, so it makes sense that my abs are strong
as well.

Now... i really have NO idea how strong my abs are compared to his. Sure, i
can set-up an easy test to do that... but eh.. i wont. Let him figure it out
himself. Last time i saw him, he didnt walk around with that typical atitude
he usually had. He looked more timide than usual.

So i was thinking...

Should i tell him the truth or just let him in the dark?

You know you won't tell him, so why do you ask?

Anyway, pretty good read.

Leave him in the dark. He sounds like an egomaniac, how you described
him.

I was beaten in a sprint by a roly-poly fat guy once. A very good
friend, took me to my first strip club right before I joined the
Army. But he also taught me not to judge someone by their looks!

I know of guys who look worse than me (I look like a Greco-Roman
wrestler statue in the art museum) who can outperform me on many
physical tasks. There are, for example, lotsa skinny guys who can do
much more chinups than me, probably on account of their "geometry."

One thing I noticed in my gym: even the big fellas benching 315 and up
only set ab machine weight to like 30 lbs. WTF??? But I guess
they're going for high reps, under the ol' "high reps + low weight =
chiseled cuts" theory. But then again, no, because they do like three
sets of maybe twenty reps and then the machine's mine, and I'm there
with 65-71 lbs. doing six, seve, eight sets of sixty,
twenty...fifteen, ten, and eight reps.

BTW, I haven't seen a guy wearing a mid-cut shirt in the gym in, like,
forever. Only a few women wear them. Even when I had "8-packs" I
didn't wear them; it just never occured to me. Well, I certainly
won't with my 4-packs now!

I've heard that honesty is the best policy.

> I guess i just wanted to hear some opinions.

Honesty, I'm certain, is almost always the best policy, but it also
sounds like the guy challenging you and being a nuisance got a
deserved comeuppance of sorts. Still, as long as he's been knocked
down that peg or so, where's the harm in telling him what actually
took place? What's he going to do - run to all his friends and remind
them of how he was embarrassed?

"Hey, guys! Hey, guy! I'm really not so weak. It's the machine! It's
the machine! And that Pete guy SAID SO!"

I'd bet he'd view you, the sly fox, with even more respect and keep
his mouth shut. Otoh, if he does blab then you crush him in another
lifting contest!

Yes, a great story, Pete.

Better hope he doesn't get his hands on a calculator and a link to

When I worked out in the Netherlands I think the gym was the only place
where it was hard to find people who spoke English (-:

early death and/or incarceration by the "Monroe County Folks" would
U? If u are...great I am to. If not, start doing so immediately.

Lifting heavy objects makes you stupid.

Or are people who lift heavy objects stupid to begin with?

Sure. Smart people go and find a trolley or a block and tackle or
something.

Or a strong person to lift the heavy object for them. Hmmm. Thus often
helping to create an even stronger strong person by way of ye olde
progressive weight somethingsomething.

I see a vicious cycle forming!

Yep. What do people in my institute do when we run out of water at the
cooler on the second floor, and need to bring bottles up from the first
floor? Come and find me.

Or, even better, WindMills!
The capstan, used in many vehicles, originated in windmills, to transform
the rotation of the mills into a horizontal or vertical movement.

That movement was used by us to saw trees, to create state of the art
accurate beams to build ships in the Golden Era.
Other Nations used manpower/muscle to saw the trees. Our beams were better.
