What is with all of these assholes SPAMMING their blog sites?

There has been a huge increase of SPAM here from people advertising their
blog sites. Do they make $ from the # of hits they get? None of these people
have any qualifications nor do they give much of, if any info about
themselves.

We noticed. Interestingly enough I tend to see the link twice. Once
in the original spam and once when you quote the spam and tell the
spammer to f-off.

Yes. It is fairly easy to put up a google adwords campaign on a
blog. If the blog becomes wildly successful you can even make a
pretty good living from the impressions and clicks.

Of course not. That shouldn't surprise anyone. The weight loss
industry is huge, and most part aren't interested in learning the
tricks a pro body builder uses to get into contest shape. For the
most part they are simply looking for easy lifestyle changes that
allow them to fit into their old jeans. Bonus points are awarded for
solutions that sound scientific (but not too scientific) and that
don't revolve around hard work or giving up pizza.

The solutions don't even have to work. They just have to sound like
they might work to the average American. That's not a particularly
large hurdle.

Robert, several Nigerian gangs are arrested here for sending spam-E-mails
arouind the Globe. They send messages that led you to believe you can marry
a beautiful woman, or that someone has a kid dying from cancer.

Or they want you to invest. Or that you WON the lottery, but you need to
make a down payment.

Rumour has it that they made 100.000.000,- last couple of years!

And it makes sense. With several tens of million E-mails each day, just ONE
out every 10.000 has to be a complete idiot. So they have a few thousand
people responding each day.

You forget the avarage European. Its a global business these days.

The agressive marketing is here in Europe as well.

Several days ago i got called by someone who asked for "Mr. Dos-Santos."

I told him he got the wrong number. Instead of hanging up, he tried to sell
me fish-oil capsules...

I told him they gave me high blood pressure. He didnt understand it...

The (very few, but how large does the sample really need to be?) that
I've looked at feature articles ripped off from other websites. One
guy had a bunch of nutrition articles, I did a C & P from a couple of
paragraphs, Googled them, and found the original sources. I was in a
pretty cranky mood that day and contacted the copyright holders -- one
of them e-mailed a 'thank-you' back to me and then contacted the guy
stealing her material. His site went down shortly after that.

(I don't normally play Internet cop, but this guy had comment-spammed
my blog about how he'd stumbled across it while scouring the Internet
for good diet tips. I have a pituitary tumor that fucked up my
hormones and I lost a boatload of weight when my prolactin came back
in line and my T went from that of a 12-year old girl to that of a
grown-up man. It's not really so much a 'diet' ...)

I don't know how much they can be making from hits. Most, I've seen,
use Google Ads, and I know a couple of people with legitimate sites
(that is, they're not spammers) who run Google ads and they aren't
making enough money to make blogging worth any more than a hobby.

I'm sure there are people making big bucks somewhere, but for the
spammer relying on clicked Google Ad links to generate money, it has
to be a waste of effort in most cases.

Maybe ... the spammers have been sold the site. A guy I work with
(who I would classify as a My Space Spammer) told me he's seen sites
'for sale' that supposedly come with content and wot-not and are sold
as revenue generators for the buyer. So, some idiot puts together a
site with some stolen content, and sells it to a bigger idiot.

Also, and not directly related, two weeks ago a friend of mine was
told by a friend of hers that the first friend was starting a blog and
that she expects to make $100,000 a year. She doesn't seem to have any
special info to share with the world; she just expects people to flock
to her blog for some reason.

Certainly you've got your Ariana Huffingtons and Matt Drudges out
there (who I assume are raking it in) but I think most of these
goofballs are too stupid to realize they are wasting their time.

And, of course, this is all just my opinion. Maybe I'm the only one in
the world with an Internet connection that doesn't find my mailbox
stuffed with tens and twenties each afternoon due to the riveting,
entertaining and thought-provoking stuff I post daily that leaves my
readers more buff, happier, healthier, better endowed, smarter, and
better looking.

One of the things that I learned living in South America was that it
is basically always safe to make fun of the Gringos--especially if you
happen to be a Gringo yourself.

Poking fun at other ethnic groups, on the other hand, can sometimes be
dicey.

Maybe his fish oil capsules are designed so that you break them and
rub them into your skin. I've heard that instantaneous transdermal
EFA application can really help hypertrophy. Plus you don't get fish
burps.

I probably should be careful, some people will believe anything.
