Default what a piece of shit

John Kerry: "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study
hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do
well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

This douchebag almost became President.

And he wasn't even drunk, so, he can't use the Kennedy defense.

It was obviously a reference to Bush, not to the troops.

Sarcasm is tricky. And, if you believe Kerry and his handlers, Kerry's
comment was a failed jab at President Bush. Obviously that doesn't
excuse Kerry's misstep. Idiotic at best. Apparently Kerry can't read a
cue card. D'OH!

The president called Kerry's statement "insulting and shameful,"
however some would call Bush's weaseling out of actual military service
just as, if not more, insulting and shameful.

Bush continued, "The men and women who serve in our all-volunteer armed
forces are plenty smart and are serving because they are patriots."

And, imo, they're in Iraq because, unlike Bush, they either a) couldn't
neatly sidestep serving in a hot spot or b) felt a duty to actually
frigging *serve* as required by their oath of service.

> This douchebag almost became President.

So you consider Bush less of a douchebag?

Kerry said the comment in question was "a botched joke about the
president and the president's people, not about the troops ... and they
know that's what I was talking about."

Still, even if that's true, Kerry offered up a pop fly for the
opposition.

True. (Although that should be no defense either.)

Horseshit. It was the true belief of a multimillionare, elitist, Ivy League
ultra left wing liberal Democrat, who called his fellow Vietnam soldiers
murderers and rapists, lied about numerous aspects of his service,
condemned our current troops for persecuting those poor innocent Iraqis, and
represents the true belief of most of his fellow left wing liberal
Democrats, except that they're too smart to open their mouths and say it.

Kerry has been a politician long enough not to blurt out his true beliefs,
whatever they are. It was a botched jab at Bush. Try as you might to turn it
around, it was Bush and Rummie who got us into this mess. Now our guys are
supposed to operate over there with this Maliki clown cancelling
checkpoints?

Generally, I'd say I agree with you.

Still, they're just two men. Idiotic men at best, however they're not
the only ones responsible. Not to get too Henry about things, but I
suspect that the people who engineered the current situation will be in
Washington long after Bush and Rumsfeld are golfing (even more than
they are now) somewhere warm.

> Now our guys are supposed to operate over there
> with this Maliki clown cancelling checkpoints?

I heard that on NPR during the drive home. Was thinking that I'd have
that world on lock down if it was me. Otoh, what's that adage about
somethingsomething the tighter you squeeze your fist the more schtufff
will slip through your fingers? That rings a bell, too.

"The move is seen as an effort by Nouri al-Maliki to assert his
authority with the United States and appeal to his Shiite base,"
according to a news article currently online @
http://www.nbc13.com/news/10197876/detail.html

Regardless, it certainly does sound like a frigging circus over there.
And I'm not entirely sure that it's Maliki who's the clown. God bless
the U.S. troops, but is that a red ball perched on Bush's nose? Are
those big shoes on Cheney's feet? And is Rumsfeld firing a seltzer
bottle whilst beeping a tiny horn? I say "our boys" should climb back
in the tiny clown car purchased by Bush, et al. (but paid for with U.S.
taxpayer funds, of course) and hightail it the heck out of Iraq asap,
exit strategy or no exit strategy.

Ymmv, obviously.

I have been extremely critical of the way the "war after the war" has been
handled.

Doesn't change the fact that Kerry is a fucking douchebag.

Oh, boo hoo. So kick him in the nuts the next time you see him. It was
a stupid comment, yes, but what's the true pickle? I'd say it's Bush
and his crew.

Dumb comment regardless of intent versus thousands of U.S. troops dead
and bafriggingjillions spent with no end in sight. Let me ponder that
one. D'OH!

If your particular focus was a person, why, I suspect I'd have to call
them "a fucking douchebag," too, David.

Kerry is pretty much irrelevant at this point. He should shut his trap,
anything he says can only help Republicans.

You mean the one that studied hard and then volunteered for Vietnam? Or
the one that partied hard, hid hard, and is now sending our guys to get
killed?

This is like a black guy warning people not to be niggers. Kerry knows
who's on the frontlines. He's been there.

Do you know the difference between Iraq and Vietnam? Bush had a plan to
get out of Vietnam.

No, I mean the one who lied about his service, lied to get medals, accused
his fellow soldiers of all kinds of atrocities, and threw away his medals,
which he later lied about.

No, that would be the one who had the approval of most of the Democrats in
Congress for that war, including Mr. I Voted Against The War Right After I
Voted For It, and who managed a brilliant victory over Saddam Huessain (oh,
THAT can't be spelled right), and who then, as I have said before, fucked up
the "war after the war".

Been there, lying about most of it, and accusing his fellow soldiers of
atrocities.

You voted for the douchebag, you have to defend him.

Unlike the intellectually honest, like me, who voted for George Bush, but
emphatically DO NOT defend his management of the "war after the war".

Very biased of you Cohen. That's one stupid statement by Kerry vs.
234,987,987.01 stupid statements out Bush. Please. Of course in Nam, that
statement would be dead on true. Not so much for our current military. Not
the smartest thing he could have said, but what ever.

he was talking about how uneducated the president was about iraq before
he started getting all our young men and women of the armed forces
killed there in a quagmire.

how an odd and misinterpreted quote means more than even one life our
president has marched into the iraqi meat grinder is beyond me.

how you manage to take someone's private actions as a personal moral
affront is silly.

you're kidding, right? how killing over 600,000 civilians in iraq --
you know, the ones who just want to be left alone and have a nice life
and have their family not all end up dead -- to grab a guy and put him
in trial is beyond me. don't pay attention to the fact that the
original reason we were lead there was the "FACT" that saddam was
producing weapons of mass destruction and was hell bent on using them
against america just like colin powell said at the UN.

an interesting point. yeah, his plan to get out of vietnam was
apparently hiding in texas and showing up for the national guard pot
lucks every once in a while.

if by "intellectually honest" you mean you admit to voting for bush,
what you really mean is that you're being honest about your vote for
bush.

True, though. Soldiers, like policemen and bus drivers, are in general not
very smart. I'm not having a go, it's just a fact, and somethin which is
ultimately bad for both the army and for thick people.

I am reminded of a headline from the Onion's Our Dumb Century which went
something like 'Bottom 10% of US high school grads ready to take on
Saddam'.

Exactly. Kerry would NEVER vilify US troops while they are still in
harms way. While joking about Bush, Kerry also said that our troops in
Iraq terrorize women and children in the night. While joking about
Bush, Kerry said that his fellow soldiers still in Vietnam "raped, cut
off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human
genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies,
randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of
Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and
generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam". Anyone who doesn't
recognize these things as jokes about Bush are just unfairly biased.

Well, since a couple of highly biased Republican nutjobs named Murtha and
Clinton have called on Kerry to apologize, you must be right.

Gee, Tom, it's a shame when facts come by and bite you in ther ass. The news
this morning has been filled with the statistics, showing that the military
is better educated than civilians of the same age range.

Better educated or more intelligent? If the former, in what respect? Is it
partly to do with the 100's/1,000's of hours of training they undergo in the
Army?

Better educated in civilian education. High school years completed,
graduation rates, years of college, college graduation rates. At all levels,
the US military is better educated than civilians of the same age range.

There is so much horse shit about the intelligence, education and training
about our soilders.

Fact: There is an amazing amount of high tech machinery that is used by
almost all the military. Even fighting infantry has PDA's and laptops that
are carried into battle.

Fact: The military rejects all kinds of people for all kinds of reasons.
Many people of military age are simply unqualified to get in. In the Air
force, many jobs require two years of post high school to just get in.

Fact: Many service people pursue many educational opportunities in the
service. Many will take a leave, finish degrees and go back in. There is
constant training and updates with the ever changeing technology.

Fact: With the service's "up or out" philosophy, you have a certain amount
of time to progress in rank. If you don't make it, you are out. This means
there is a constant competition to better themselves to stay in. Education,
language training, additional training outside of the service, etc are all
tools that officers use to beat out the competition.

Etc, etc, etc.

It makes you wonder what the payoff is, politically and otherwise, to
denigrate some of the finest human beings on the planet. Constant whiners
and professional victims see the service as a horrid thing. It is the reason
that this nation even exists today. You would think that these priviliged
simpletons would be grateful. But apparently not.

Kerry is an old fart whose comments were accurate back in his day of
Vietnam. There was some sort of student deferment then (rating 2S) which
is what you had when you were in college. What kept folks in college was
that if you dropped out or flunked out, you got re-rated as 1A and
shipped off to Vietnam.

I'm constantly amazed at how out of touch elected officials such as
Kerry is. Once the Army WAS the last refuge of those who didn't study or
who were society's rejects, but not today.

For confirmation, see McNamara's movie 'Fog of War' where he says the
Viet war worked as a sort of Darwin improvement to the population
because only the dopes went / were killed.

heh

And there's my vote for October's humor award.

Queen's "alge" bra versus "sports" bra was a hoot as well, but I'd go
with the spot on Bush Bash. (If I wasn't banned from the humour
committee, that is.)

The current hot potato is simply a dose of misspeak by Kerry, imo. Even
if he was serious about what he said, well, he can say whatever the
heck he wants to as he's served while Bush sWerved (away from duty).

That's particularly true amongst officers. These days, it is quite
common, if not expected, for high ranking officers to have masters and
doctorate degrees.

I didn't say 'people in the miltary', i said 'soldiers' - that means
people in the army. I could well believe that those in the air force and
navy are better educated, and of course, those in the technical branches
of the army, but ordinary soldiers? It's quite possible that the US army
is radically different in composition to the British one, of course, but
my experience of growing up in a garrison town is that these are not
academic high-achievers.

Let me be more specific, as the US news media has been full of the
statistics, in detail.

The current United States military...all branches, all ranks...are better
educated...as measured by years of, and graduation from, high school and
college...than the equivilant age group of United States civilians.

I know nothing of the British military, except I wouldn't call an SAS
trooper "stupid" to his face.

They're not "troopers", they're, erm, soldiers?

It is pretty obvious it was a joke on Bush. Pretending to not get the
joke in order to act offended is pathetic. What is wrong with you?
FACT: Kerry is a decorated Vietnam Vet. He has sponsored no less than 5
seperate bills in support of Veterans. Pretty impressive seeing as he
isn't even on the Armed Services committee.
FACT: His press secretary Setti Warren is currently in the Navy Reserve.
So, to say that Kerry and his inner circle hate the military is CLEARLY
WRONG.
