Default why all the badmouthing about "New Years Resolutionists"?

I honestly don't find the increase in people at the gym all that bad.
Relatively few will be using free weights, the spin class I regularily
go to needs more people in order to keep it on the schedule, and I can
honestly say that I am happy to see someone grossly out of shape making
the effort. I see people come and go from the gym all the time and
New Years doesn't seem to create all that big of a spike. I think
that in early spring as the weather starts to warm up and people
start thinking of the beach is when I see a spike as well.
Just my two cents...

Then your gym either lacks the capacity or the owners are slacking at
getting new memberships. My gym's attendance has at least doubled if
not tripled and they use every piece of equipment. My gym can handle
short bursts of capacity so that isn't a big deal. What bugs me is
lack of gym etiquette. When your triple the number of idiots in a gym
you got a lot more stupid things going on. I wish the owners would
force members to go over a quick crash course in gym etiquette.

This experience has made me respect my gym a little more though. I
remember being at another one at twice the cost and that was always
full.

I live in the Boston area which is usually ranked as one of the more
physically fit, on average, cities than others in the US. So, I think
the idea of joining a gym after New Years may be less of a big thing
here.
As far as gym etiquette I never had any sort of lesson or anything
but just using common sense seems to get me by just fine.
That said, beyond wiping down the equipment when you are done
and offering to work in with people looking to use the same equipment I
am not sure what sort of etiquette rules are really required, then
again, I am a fairly nice guy.
