| | | YESSSS!!! Christ, but that took a while.....
Got my first 225 lb bench press today. I had hoped to hit that target
on my 50th birthday next week, and I've made it a week ahead of
schedule. I'd stalled at about 190 for a few reps, and a 1RM of about
210, for God knows how long, but a (roughly) four-week wave cycle,
starting at about 70% 1RM, 2 sets of 5 following a
140-145-150-145-150-155-150-155-160 etc up to 2 X 5@200 progression,
benching every day, added the extra 15 lb. Now I know benching every
day is frowned on by lots of folks here, but it certainly worked for
me.
Yay the oul' boys!

No it's not. "Yes" or "No" is the answer you were looking for,
otherwise a man of your towering intellect surely wouldn't have asked a
question that had a simple "Yes" or "No" answer. If Stephan's answer
had been the answer you were looking for, surely you'd have asked the
TWO questions, "Is 225 lb less or more than 100 kg, and what is 225 lb
in kilograms"? My answer to your question was, of course, designed to
test you.

Good job? That's it? 225 = two wheels. Awesome job! Why I remember
the good old days when lifts in multiples of wheels would merit a trip
to the nearest Krispy Kreme. What's a guy gotta do anymore?
I got the big Five-O coming up in May and I am thinking on trying to
break three wheels for my 50th. I've been doing pretty well in the
bench the last while and I think it may be time I moved up on the 1RM.
It may not be a clean PL lift but I'd really likely to be able to get it
off my chest, so to speak, once and for all. Bench is the one of the
big three I can really push at now. I have limited my squats and deads
to two wheels now and it is pretty unfulfilling but a back condition
forces me to be extra cautious with any spinal compression lifts.
Anyway, congrats AND get yerself a steak, Stephen M.

I'd settle for breaking 3 wheels in the C&J. Okay. 3 25 kg wheels would
be even better.
3 red wheels.

No disrespect, but....What's important to you may not be important to
me. The numbers ARE important to me. You don't know what my bodyfat
level is, how long I've been training, what level my "overall body
strength" is at (400+ deadlift, 300 ATTG squat, just in case you're
wonderin', though that was a while ago before a back injury'!), or what
any of my goals are. I'm not having a pop at you, I'm just saying that
we might have completely different goals.

I should have phrased that better. Bench press numbers. And, no duh. |

Then why do power lifters use it as one of three core lifts to judge
overall body strength? Seems they would pick something else if it
wasn't important. |

Many power lifters are obesely overweight with close to no cardio
ability whatsoever.

I can not imagine anything more shallow than dictating to others on usenet
what their goals should be. |

Well there ya go.
Define "overall strength" for me, if you would.

Many power lifters are obesely overweight with close to no cardio
ability whatsoever.

And there are beautiful models with nearly any bodyfat in extremely
poor health. Like I said they are all just numbers. How is
measuring bodyfat a better indication of ones overall health? |

It's the weight that you can press overhead for 50 reps whilst kneeling on a
swiss ball!!! Obviously.

Did I tell anyone what their goals SHOULD be? |

Seen it! We had a "personal trainer" at the gym that had his victims
trying to do dumbell military presses while balancing on the Barney Egg.
If anyone was working out nearby, we'd stand back and wait until the
suicidal behaviour was over and resume working out. No one wanted to be
anywhere close when this maroon and his naive acolytes took the spill.
There is always a frickin' professor at every gym that has to do this
differently enough that he is beyond comparison. That is supposed to
explain the tinker toy weights he works out with. That was one of the
stupidest things I have seen at the gym, and it was no surprise coming
from that idiot.

Sorry, but you are doomed to remain weak. I'll get strong, no matter
my genes. You will remain weak forever. Accept it. It will make you
happy weakling.

Might have wanted to let him bask in a worthy accomplishment a bit
longer that that one syllable "Great!" you offered, eph.
And, yeah, what if his body fat is zero percent and his squat is 500
pounds?
> How much do you weigh?
What is THAT number without the context of height, body fat percentage,
and specific lift numbers?

I'm drunk and you are stupid. Now we have all things straight. Let's
have another one.
BTW - yesterday I found that I lost another hole in my belt. I wasn't
leaner since I bought this belt (long time ago). That is during my
"bulkinh cycle". Will you get it? That's the question.

Be basked long enough!! And the weight in relation to bench press max
needs no height or BF %. And Im the one who needs to lay off the
stimulants? | | |
