GORGEOUS VACATION DESTINATIONS NAMED THE CHEAPEST IN THE UNITED STATES

  • A recent study by Optimos Travel named the cheapest U.S. vacation spots
  • The destination that took the top spot costs only $1,237 for a weeklong trip

The least expensive vacation destinations in the US have been named, and the winner is not only gorgeous but also costs as little as $91.44 a night.

A recent study by Optimos Travel named the best U.S. travel hotspots where you can get the most bang for your buck.

Taking the top spot is the Outer Banks - a line of islands of the coast of the U.S. state of North Carolina

The Outer Banks is famous for open-sea beaches, state parks and shipwreck diving sites - all of which make it a great spring or summer vacation spot for the whole family.

According to the study, vacationing in the Outer Banks costs around $177 each day - which means a week-long stay would cost approximately $1,237.

'We ranked Outer Banks as the least expensive destination, where the allure of the Atlantic meets affordability,' the company shared in its findings.

'With the lowest accommodation costs at $91.44, combined with meals at $60 and attractions adding up to $11.27, the daily cost per person stands at a mere $177. A week-long stay here... for a family of four [comes out] at just $3,247.90, proving that paradise doesn't have to cost a fortune.'

Aaron Tuell, of the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, said the spot became particularly popular with travelers after the hit Netflix series hit screens in April 2020, which he joked was great promotion for the area.

Tuell admitted that he thinks the TV show, which stars Chase Stokes and Madelyn Clyne, brought a lot of new people to the Outer Banks.

He told Fox5 that the show raised global awareness of the 'big secret' that is the value you get with an Outer Banks vacation.

'The Outer Banks has never been better,' he said. 'We've seen some crazy growth come and start to taper off back to normal.'

Tuell said that local businesses, property management companies and hotels have been able to perfect their business models and create a great vacation experience for visitors.

'Our homes are mom-and-pop properties,' Tuell said - adding that the Bureau has devised a plan to make sure the Outer Banks sticks to its roots as it expands and changes over the next few decades.

Coming in second place on the list was Charleston, West Virginia, which costs around $1,242 a week.

The riverside city of Charleston is the state's capital and has rich history and a growing arts scene, making it a perfect vacation spot.

Other destinations included on the list was Sedona, Arizona, and Helen, Georgia.
