CATHEDRAL READIES FOR MOST IMPORTANT TIME OF YEAR

Canterbury Cathedral is readying itself for what it said was the most important time of its year.

With Holy Week well under way, preparations are being made for a weekend of Easter worship, with live broadcasts from BBC TV and radio.

Broadcasters in Canterbury have set up a television gallery in the visitor centre and cameras through the cathedral.

Reverend Wendy Dalrymple said was welcome to join.

Rev Dalrymple said Easter was "the most important time of the year for the Church".

She said: "Holy Week and Easter are the central story for Christians.

"Through drama, music, light and sound, we celebrate the mystery of resurrection."

Dean of Canterbury Dr David Montieith, said: "We have prepared the lovely garden at our Cathedral Lodge and inside the Cathedral building we have lifted up the most enormous cross which disrupts our view and calls us to stop and reflect.

"Please do come and join us here, join us also online as we share our worship with you."

BBC Head of Operations Peter Taylor, who is in charge of live broadcasting this weekend, said they have "brought the cavalry".

He said: "We have got lots of small vans, we are building a television gallery in the visitor centre and we are rigging cables into the cathedral.

"We have seven cameras, about 40 microphones overall to capture the sound and 4,500m (4.5km) of cable to make sure we can connect the whole thing up."
