PPA TO OPEN SIARGAO AND CORON CRUISE TERMINALS

THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) announced the opening of cruise terminals, including those in Siargao and Coron, Palawan, before the year ends.

PPA general manager Jay Santiago said that alongside the expected 300,000 tourist arrivals from cruise ships this year, the PPA is set to open dedicated cruise terminals as part of a broader initiative to cater to the growing demand for cruise tourism in the country.

"We're enhancing existing ports and also constructing dedicated cruise terminals. Projects like the Siargao cruise terminal, expected to be operational by the third quarter, and the cruise terminal in Coron, Palawan, are already underway. We're also progressing with projects in Curimao, Ilocos Norte, Salomague in Ilocos Sur, and a cruise terminal in Buruanga, Aklan. Many more locations are in the pipeline, including Camiguin," Santiago said.

The recent inauguration of Batangas Port's expanded passenger terminal, led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., signals an exciting development in the Philippines' maritime infrastructure.

The PPA continues to expand passenger terminal buildings across the country, with projects such as the expansion of the terminal in Zamboanga expected to open this year.

"PPA remains dedicated to enhancing our maritime infrastructure and providing top-notch services to travelers. These new terminals will not only accommodate the increasing number of passengers but also contribute to the local economy by generating employment opportunities and promoting tourism in various regions," Santiago emphasized.

With dedicated cruise terminals and expanded passenger facilities, the Philippines is well-positioned to welcome a growing number of travelers and provide them with unforgettable experiences.

"As our passenger terminal expands, so does our capacity to accommodate passengers. We're looking at about 300 percent increase in revenue. Secondly, we've seen that in the local economy, there are food kiosks, and more services there will contribute to local employment in the community," Santiago said.

Meanwhile, there have also been initial discussions between PPA and the Maritime Industry Authority regarding additional ships at the ports due to the number of passengers using the terminals.
