TOURISM TILT BARES WINNERS

THE Tourism Champions Challenge (TCC), a flagship initiative of the Department of Tourism that invites local government units (LGUs) to engage in the development of the tourism industry, has received commendation from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Marcos said TCC will receive an additional P75 million, bringing the total amount of financing for the project to P255 million.

"The Tourism Champions Challenge was launched and designed to unleash the potential of cities and municipalities across the Philippines by inviting them to propose innovative tourism infrastructure projects that aim to foster sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience in tourism development, enhance our local destinations and communities, and most importantly, provide added economic opportunity for our communities nationwide," Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said.

The President, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and Frasco awarded the prizes to 15 winning proposals from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao out of almost 100 entries from across the Philippines.

The prizes distributed were P20 million for first place, P15 million for second place, P10 million for third place, P8 million for fourth place and P7 million for fifth place.

The 15 winning LGUs were Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya; Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro; Bolinao, Pangasinan; San Jose, Romblon; Socorro, Oriental Mindoro; Tubigon, Bohol; Badian, Cebu; Silago, Southern Leyte; Victorias City, Negros Occidental; Panay, Capiz; Isabela City, Basilan; Davao City, Davao del Sur; Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte; Tagum City, Davao del Norte; and San Agustin, Surigao del Sur.
